Rock Region Metro, Pulaski County’s daily transit system has been awarded a $4.9 million Federal Transit Administration grant to purchase battery electric buses and battery charging infrastructure.
With this grant being the largest competitive one to date, Central Arkansas transit could reach its goal of phasing out diesel-fueled buses earlier than its goal date of 2025. These buses are scheduled to begin operation in early Spring of 2023.
Additionally, the charging infrastructure can be designed to service the transit buses on one side and personal EV’s on the other.
CEO Charles Frazier said, "This is such an exciting opportunity for Metro to lead the push to put Little Rock on the map for electric vehicle charging infrastructure while making central Arkansas' public transit system even more sustainable,"
