Joseph H. Purvis, a member of the firm, focuses his practice in the area of workers compensation, representing a variety of employers in Arkansas and across the country. He is listed in Best Lawyers and, in 2012, was named as “Lawyer of the Year” in the Workers Compensation Attorneys category in Little Rock.

After graduating from Hendrix College, Mr. Purvis served in the United States Air Force for four years before earning his J.D. from the University of Arkansas. Upon completing law school, Mr. Purvis worked in the Office of the Arkansas Attorney General, serving as Deputy of the Criminal Division from 1978-81. During his time in the Criminal Division, Mr. Purvis had the privilege of arguing before the United States Supreme Court on two different occasions.

Mr. Purvis is a member of the American and Arkansas Bar Associations, having previously served as a member of the House of Delegates in the state association. He is a frequent presenter of Continuing Legal Education classes and has been awarded a “Best of CLE” award for his presentation entitled “Dealing with Psychological Testimony.”

He and his wife, Susan, have two children. His daughter works for the Pew Charitable Trust in Washington D.C., while his son has earned a Doctor of Philosophy and History. Mr. Purvis is an avid Razorback and St. Louis Cardinals fan and loves to visit the Little Red River to trout fish. He also sings in a local band—Little Joe and BKs.
